About Me:
I am an aspiring medical missionary. In the fall of 2007 I will be entering nursing school and possibly part time starting to get my Masters in Public Health. After completing that I plan to work for a few years, refining my clinical skills and saving money for graduate school. Then I plan to enter Graduate school in a Nurse Practitioner program as well as get my MPH. After completing this program I plan to use all the skills I have learned and take them out to the world. There are so many places in the world that have substandard or no health care at all. My inspiration is Dr Paul Farmer. He went to Hati, to an area where to mortality rate from tuberculosis was near 100% and brought it down to close to 0%. He established a working healcare system in a rural area. He recognized that you can't just treat a disease but that you also need to treat the who person. He saw that it's going to be hard to get someone to take medication if they are starving. So he made sure they had money for food or he housed them at the medical compound for the more severe cases.
I want to be out there touching the world one person at a time. I have a special interest in the orphans in Asia. I would love to join up with a team or form a team that would speand 8-9 months of the year in one country going from orphanage to orphanage giving check ups, vaccination and education to the orphanage staff on how to better care for these children.
